Subject assessment cycle at Medway
In 2019-2020 Curriculum in Action (CiA) was introduced so that all teachers, senior teachers (ST), subject coordinators (SC) and the senior leadership team (SLT) could make judgments about pupil progress, and teacher performance through a collaborative and supportive professional dialogue platform.
Every fortnight, the SLT, one member of the ST, the SC and the year group teachers meet to discuss a subject. Pupils work is showcased, and a variety of questions are asked which is then scored by all involved (please see the assessment diagram). The team looks for evidence that supports the teaching and teachers are given real-time feedback which means improvements are made rapidly and successes are celebrated.
From the assessment diagram, it is easy to identify the strength/weaknesses across the year groups and whether any trends have emerged over the key stages. This enables SLT to make strategic decisions quickly in order to improve the curriculum and teaching and learning. As a result pupil outcomes are enhanced.
