Welcome to Medway Community Primary School

Medway has always been a family school. My father was headteacher here, and the values he lived by still shape everything we do. It’s in our DNA to believe that every child, whatever their starting point, can surmount it — not through shortcuts, but through care, craft and ambition.

Medway stands in the heart of Highfields, shaped by the families and cultures that make Leicester what it is: diverse, creative and full of promise. We build on our heritage with fresh ideas, strong teaching and a curriculum that evolves with our children.

Belonging sits at the heart of our school. Many of our children are new to the country, and each is greeted by someone whose first task is to make their first few months happy and secure. Because some of our parents do not speak English, we prioritise collaboration and oracy. Talk underpins everything we do, helping children build model sentences and shared language so that learning feels equitable, deliberate and confident.

Our curriculum never dumbs down. It is built around great texts — The Iliad, Great Expectations, The Epic of Gilgamesh — because children deserve to encounter stories that have shaped human understanding. Our trips are thoughtful and nuanced, designed to expand horizons without breaking the bank.

We are a school where inclusion, great teaching, and excellent welfare combine with purpose and care. Our teachers are experts in noticing, guiding and refining what children can do. Teaching here is a craft built through collaboration and reflection.

We do well in national tests, but that is not the be-all and end-all. Success at Medway is measured in confidence, curiosity and contribution — children who speak well, think deeply and care about others.
